Description:Consider Fortune Redding 's situation. While she enjoys the people she has met in Sinful, she still needs stimuli to keep her brain acute in anticipation of that hoped-for day when Ahmad is no longer a threat and she can become "operational." Since she needs greater mental stimulation than the daily crossword puzzle in the newspaper, she looks for challenges and finds one in the library, on the computer for her work station, when she finds a web site entitled "This Day in New Orleans" and reads of a murder that took place in New Orleans on that particular date, during Mardi Gras, "in the early 1900's." Through the internet, she finds newspaper articles made available online, after that web site was compiled, which reveal discrepancies between testimony in the trial for James Reichart, the man accused of the murder and eventually found guilty, and later reports concerning one of the witnesses whose testimony helped convict him. As those later reports indicate, that witness may have pursued a "life of crime," to coin a term, which was never revealed to the jury -- and may have affected their verdict. Was James Reichart convicted on perjured testimony?
