But it would appear that in subcultures the organism can accommodate itself to ordinary aerobic conditions. Under such conditions surface colonies develop in about three days as small, usually discrete honey-like dots. These later tend to coalesce and to form a creamy film, which in time becomes darker in colour, and in very Old cultures is actually coffee coloured or brown. The medium upon which the strain used in our laboratory, and to which the organism appears to have become well accommodated, is prepared as follows.
